ZZ Top's bassist Dusty Hill has died at the age of 72-years-old, the band announced Wednesday.

The announcement, signed by ZZ Top members Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard, said that Hill passed away in his sleep at his Houston, Texas home.

"We are saddened by the news today that our Compadre, Dusty Hill, has passed away in his sleep at home in Houston, TX," the band said Wednesday. "We, along with legions of ZZ Top fans around the world, will miss your steadfast presence, your good nature, and enduring commitment to providing that monumental bottom to the ‘Top'."

The band had been previously scheduled to play in Evansville on July 21, but that show was canceled.
